Bird Buddies: Books for Kids

The books listed here are included in Bird Buddies, a summer STEAM adventure that looks at the incredible world of birds, using a cross-disciplinary approach that brings together science, the arts, and social studies.

Developed for children in grades 1-5, the free Bird Buddies toolkit gives families and summer youth programs a practical, hands-on guide to exploring the rich and varied life of birds. We’ve designed the program to be user-friendly and adaptable. Use the materials each day for five days in a row, or once a week, for five weeks, (or any other way you like) to add hands-on learning to your summer programming.

Bird Buddies is designed to encourage children to observe birds in nature, to feel their knowledge about the natural world growing, and to start seeing themselves as environmental stewards and future scientists.

It all starts with a book ... browse the great fiction and nonfiction titles below to begin your adventure into learning all about birds!
